Michelle Werner I always want them to move around either in the round pen or on a lunge line until they relax.  I'll change directions several times along the way.  That will usually tell me where their head is.  If I have a horse at a trot and then change direction quickly, he'll almost always tell me how fresh he is. If he squeals or jumps around, I'll just keep working on it until I can get those changes and departures nice and quiet.  Have fun!!

Amy Busch The dull thing is a tough one because it almost always comes down to spanking.  It rarely takes much if done right, but a lot of dull horses won't get going without it.  The key is to make sure it counts or they'll get dull to the spanking too!  Good luck!

Katherine Cosper  If I could offer one piece of advice, teach them to go forward off the cluck now so that you won't have to chase them later.  Those babies tend to get a little sluggish after a lot of handling.  Thanks for keeping us updated!
