I have a 12 yr horse I bought six months ago. He is definitely a work in progress. I went to put him in a different horse trailer (not a stock trailer) and he freaked out when I went to close the divider. He backed right out and had the fear of death in his eyes. I got him to calm down and started the process again, heā€™ll get in, but once I start to move the divider same thing happened. He has no issues in a stock trailer so I assume it has something to do with claustrophobiaā€¦?! Ā Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Iā€™ll keep on trying. Thanks for all you do Richard~ Zak

Hi Boatwright,

Thank you so much for sharing your skills with us. We are taking it day by day with him. Sometimes it one step forward and two back, but my daughter still loves the challenge. She has been working with him on being tied to the trailer and has noticed that if we tie him tight, he gets nervous. If we give him a little slack, he does much better. Iā€™m such a newbie at all of this so I really love your video instructions. You make it look so easy. Please continue to post for us that are new to the game! Ā Thanks

According to my daughter he bit her knuckle, she didnā€™t say it was aggressive, but surprising. According to the previous owner he has pulled back (reared up when tied) before, but he couldnā€™t re-enact the result. When we brush him he will chomp his lips and when it comes to curry brush on his hind end he will kick out. We now take the curry brush and lightly hold it on his end until he calms down. Still havenā€™t tried to pick his hind legs (more just inexperience on my end). Heā€™ll pick his front hooves up, but just gets fussy when I start to run my hand down his hind quarter. Good thing is my daughter still has hope, just a little frustrated. We look forward to your (and the communityā€™s) counsel. Thanks!

Hi Richard,

I bought a 12 hr old quarter horse in Nov ā€˜22. The more my daughter and I have been around him the more bad habits he seems to exhibit. He bit my daughterā€™s hand when she was tying him up, and then reared up breaking his halter after being tied to the trailer. Iā€™m new to this, but was wondering if I should start all over again with lounging as you did with Elvis (desensitizing him with the flag). The previous owner said he was ā€œbrokeā€. What is the best way to build trust with him? Just looking for solutions so my daughter and I can have a great horse. Thank you for your videos and expertise and look forward to learning more. ~Zak

I bought an 11 year old quarter horse who has an issue with backing up. We bought him as a rope prospect but he needs to be able to back up and he rears up if you try to back him up a few steps. I can get him to back up 2 or 3 steps anything after that heā€™s in the air or throwing his head. Iā€™m open for any suggestions. Iā€™m planning on working with him but Iā€™m looking for some advice. Thanks
