HI Joe,  Sorry for the late response.  I don't get notifications for this page for some reason.  Unfortunately,  there is no way to cure cribbing (wind sucking).  Now that being said, lot's of horses will chew on wood fencing and that's not cribbing.  Does your horse hang his teeth on the fence and gulp air or just chew the fence?  RIchard

Hi Judith,  A lot of young colts (not usually fillies) like to have things in their mouth.  Generally, it should be ignored and will go away on its own with time.  Neches is a very "mouthy" horse and he has almost totally given it up now (3 months in training).  Now, that being said, if he is biting you you must take action.  I find tapping them in the legs with a stick until they get out of your space works well.  As far as being halter broke, I think as long as your horse can halter, lead, tie ,and stand to be groomed they are ready to go.  Check out the videos in the Ranch Horse Ten Commandments under "Be Led" for more info.  Good luck and keep us posted!  Richard

That's a piece of 1/4" halter cord.  Works pretty good.

Hi Judith, if your colt is not showing aggression toward you or other people, I doubt you should worry about it.  Lots of colts are what we call "mouthy" or they are orally fixated.  It turns out that we will be uploading a new ES20 with a colt that has the same tendancies very soon.  Nothing to worry about and they will usually grow out of it.  Just make sure he doesn't try to take a bite out of you!😉. Keep us updated on your progress and let me know if I can help along the way!  Richard
