Englishman trying to ride western!

Richard Boatwright Richard, the rope I have is a 45ft 5/16 Nylon, which I’m having good success with but it has this Honda on and I’m really not overly happy with it, any thoughts on these?

I do want to put a breakaway on possibly but it would appear I’m going to have to take the end off the rope to fit it, so that got me thinking am I better cutting of this Honda and getting a better one/tie it but it would appear the nylon rope could be tricky to tie.

the videos were excellent and helped me correct a few things, your cows better be aware in April 🤣🤣

Thanks Richard, I will also look to put a neck strap together that you have on your bosal setup to keep it on the pivot.

look forward to the videos when you find them, made a very crude dummy yesterday, obviously as a talented carpenter I thought I’d make you laugh 🤣🤣

Richard Boatwright - quick question Richard, I have a 2 year old Vanner/Shire cross who I will be starting soon, he well handled and been sacked out and saddled but we have discovered he has a blind wolf tooth that needs to be pulled in an operation soon and therefore not able to have his snaffle in for a period until it’s fully healed, would you advise waiting for this to heal or starting him on the program in a halter/reins or hackamore?

eager to get him ridden away as I have a Friesian/Vanner mare to start after him but she will be rising 2 in July

Also I’m just starting some roping and so is the better half, any recommendations on videos on fundamentals of roping we can watch?

This is my next project with my old mare, teach the old dog some new tricks, along with some roping work on her so I’ve been studying your collection on that also!

Been away is always a change but I can’t wait to get home, lots of working away at the moment and no time for the horses, of course I miss the wife and family but more than anything I miss time at the stables!
